Race-planning seminar in Ireland attracts high turnout

Following a request, at the General Assembly, for an EMHF Seminar on Race Planning, EMHF Chair Brian Kavanagh welcomed a strong turnout to the offices of Horse Racing Ireland, in Newbridge, County Kildare on August 16th. France, Great Britain and Ireland all fielded experts who shared presenting duties. Nineteen delegates, from Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Morocco, Slovakia, Sweden and Turkey, attended. Chaired by EMHF Secretary-General, Paull Khan, subjects included how to match the race programme to the horse population, balancing the competing interests of stakeholders, the role of handicaps and race-types such as Claimers and Auction Races, the pros and cons of Breeders' and Owners' Premiums and maximising field sizes. HRI then treated delegates to a high-quality evening card at the Curragh. For most, it was the first opportunity to witness its splendid new grandstand and facilities.
